Manchester United's Left-Back Hunt: Premier League Targets and Bernardo Silva's Future
Manchester United’s search for a new left-back is starting to harden into a clear plan, and the Premier League is their preferred hunting ground. According to TEAMtalk, the club are tracking Arsenal youngster Myles Lewis-Skelly, Fulham’s Antonee Robinson and Crystal Palace’s Tyrick Mitchell as they look for a solution with proven top-flight experience.
It is a move born of necessity. United’s issues on the left side of defence have been a running theme, and the club want someone who can step straight into the Premier League rhythm rather than spend a season adjusting.
Lewis-Skelly is the intriguing name. At 19, he is the outlier in a list otherwise built on established full-backs. His minutes at Arsenal have dropped, squeezed by the form of Riccardo Calafiori and Piero Hincapié, and that change in status has opened a door. The teenager, highly regarded in England youth setups, is a candidate to move in the summer as he looks for the kind of regular football that might push him towards the senior national team.
Robinson and Mitchell, by contrast, are known quantities: reliable, athletic, and already hardened by the grind of the division United want to conquer again. The question is how aggressively United move, and which profile they ultimately prioritise — potential, or immediate certainty.
Bernardo Silva eyes Barcelona, but the race is wide open
While United weigh their options, another long-running transfer saga is edging towards its decisive chapter. Bernardo Silva has decided to bring his time at Manchester City to an end when his contract runs out this summer, and, according to Diario Sport, he is prioritising a move to Barcelona.
The fit is obvious. A technician who thrives in tight spaces, a player who understands positional play almost instinctively, Bernardo looks tailor-made for the Camp Nou stage. Barça see the appeal and regard the 31-year-old as a smart market opportunity.
Yet the path is not clear.
The Catalan club are stacked with options in his area of the pitch, and for now he is not considered an absolute priority. That gives other suitors room to move. The Saudi Pro League has placed hefty offers on the table, testing how much the Portugal international values sporting ambition over financial security at this stage of his career. Juventus have made their move as well, while Benfica are dreaming of a romantic return for the academy product who left so early.
One of Europe’s most intelligent midfielders is available. The scramble has begun.
Barcelona’s left-back puzzle and Grimaldo’s escape route
On the other side of the ball, Barcelona are working through their own full-back conundrum. Diario Sport report that Bayer Leverkusen’s Alejandro Grimaldo has emerged as the main option as the club assess the left side of their defence.
Alejandro Balde’s injury record has set off alarm bells, and there is lingering doubt about making João Cancelo’s stay permanent after a season in which his attacking brilliance has been offset by defensive lapses. The result: Barça are back in the market.
Grimaldo, 30, is under contract with Leverkusen until 2027, but he has openly stated his desire to leave this summer. That public stance changes the dynamics. The German champions hold the paperwork and a €20 million release clause, yet the expectation is that a deal could be done for less. For a club juggling financial constraints with the need to stay competitive, that kind of leverage matters.
Griezmann set for Orlando, but not just yet
Another European star is preparing for a new life. Antoine Griezmann is using the international break to fly to the United States and complete a move to Orlando City, according to Marca.
Atlético Madrid have given the France forward permission to travel and finalise what is expected to be the last long-term contract of his career. It is a significant step for a player who has defined an era at Atleti, but the farewell will not be immediate.
Out of respect for the club and the bond he has built with its fans, Griezmann will stay in Madrid until the end of the season. There is still work to do: a Copa del Rey to chase, and a Champions League campaign to try to extend as far as possible before he crosses the Atlantic.
Lewandowski’s future on pause
At Barcelona, another veteran is weighing up his next move. Fabrizio Romano reports that the club are considering extending Robert Lewandowski’s contract by an extra year, though no decision has been made.
The 37-year-old is keeping every option alive. Staying at Barça is on the table. So is another move within Europe. The Saudi Pro League has made its presence felt again, while MLS clubs have already made approaches as they look to add one of the most prolific strikers of his generation.
This is Lewandowski’s call, and his next step will say plenty about how he sees the final chapter of his career.
Milan, Juventus and the rest: Europe’s dominoes line up
Beneath the headline names, the market is already shifting.
AC Milan have expressed interest in Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka, whose contract runs out this summer, as reported by Christian Falk. The Rossoneri are also looking at 24-year-old Barcelona defender Gerard Martin, according to Matteo Moretto and Fabrizio Romano, as they continue to reshape their squad.
Juventus are working on securing their own cornerstone, with Nicolo Schira reporting that the club will hold a key meeting with Dusan Vlahovic’s agent over a new deal running until 2028. Tie down the striker now, and the rebuild in Turin gains a clear focal point.
In the Premier League and beyond, the next generation is in motion. Brighton are leading Celtic and Brentford in the race for Sao Paulo midfielder Damian Bobadilla, say Football Insider. RB Leipzig and Nottingham Forest are both tracking Celtic midfielder Arne Engels, while several clubs are monitoring his teammate Reo Hatate.
Across Serie A, scouting networks are busy. Genoa, Udinese and Parma are all keeping tabs on Luis Hasa, the attacking midfielder currently on loan at Carrarese from Napoli, according to Schira. Torino, meanwhile, are planning to trigger the clause to sign Enzo Ebosse permanently from Udinese, and left-back Juan Cabal could leave Juventus in the summer.
Even the Saudi Pro League is dipping into less familiar markets. Fabrizio Romano reports that Leganes midfielder Seydouba Cisse has agreed a three-year deal with Al Kholood, effective from July.
From United’s search for stability at left-back to the looming decisions of Bernardo Silva, Griezmann and Lewandowski, the outlines of the next transfer window are already visible. The names are big, the stakes even bigger — and the clubs that move first, and smartest, will shape the landscape for years to come.
