Mohamed Salah Shines in Trabzonspor Debut with Brace

Mohamed Salah needed just one start to announce himself in Turkey.

The former Liverpool star struck twice for Trabzonspor, his first goals for the club, to seal a 2-1 win over Istanbul Basaksehir and ignite his Super Lig adventure.

Signed on a two-year deal at the start of August, Salah eased his way in with a debut from the bench in last week’s 1-1 draw at Kasimpasa. This time he was in from the first whistle. The impact was immediate.

Eight minutes in, Salah opened the scoring, marking his full debut with the kind of clinical finish that became his trademark in England. Trabzonspor had their new talisman, and the stadium had its new roar.

Basaksehir hit back quickly. In the 19th minute, Eldor Shomurodov stepped up to the penalty spot and coolly slotted home to drag the visitors level, briefly quietening the home crowd and testing Trabzonspor’s resolve.

Salah answered straight after the interval.

Just three minutes into the second half, he restored Trabzonspor’s lead with his second of the night, a brace that underlined his status as the decisive figure on the pitch and shifted the momentum firmly back to the hosts.

Basaksehir pushed, but they could not find a way past a Trabzonspor side now built around a ruthless forward who has wasted no time settling into his new surroundings.

Salah’s double proved enough to wrap up the points, giving Trabzonspor their first league win of the season and a clear focal point in attack as they look ahead to their next Super Lig outing on August 31 against Amed SK.
