Victor Osimhen Makes Galatasaray History with Brace
Victor Osimhen is rewriting the foreign scorers’ history at Galatasaray, and he is doing it at full speed.
The Nigeria striker struck twice in a commanding 4-0 win over Erzurum FK on Friday night, a performance that did more than just secure three points for the Turkish champions. Those goals pushed his tally to 62 in just 76 appearances for the club, lifting him into third place on Galatasaray’s all-time list of highest-scoring foreign players.
The double took him past former Czech Republic forward Milan Baros, who hit 61 during his spell in Istanbul. A small step numerically, a huge one symbolically. Baros is a benchmark name at the club; Osimhen has just moved beyond him.
His impact is not limited to goals either. Since arriving at Galatasaray, the 27-year-old has also laid on 16 assists, underlining how central he has become to the champions’ attacking structure.
Only two foreign greats now stand in front of him. Mauro Icardi leads the list with 77 goals, while Romanian icon Gheorghe Hagi sits second on 72. The chase is very much on.
Osimhen’s start to the new Süper Lig campaign only sharpens that sense of momentum. His brace against Erzurum FK took his haul to at least four goals across Galatasaray’s opening two league fixtures, making him the first player since Brazilian striker Mario Jardel in the 2000/01 season to reach that mark so quickly.
Records are beginning to fall around him. The latest milestone does more than decorate his CV; it confirms his status as one of the most prolific foreign forwards ever to wear the Galatasaray shirt — and hints that Icardi and Hagi’s numbers may not stand untouched for long.
