World Cup Stars Likely to Transfer This Summer
As the 2026 World Cup nears its conclusion, attention shifts towards the upcoming 2026-27 club season and the potential transfers that could reshape squads across Europe. Several high-profile players have already secured new deals, including Marc Cucurella, Elliot Anderson, and Youri Tielemans.
Still, a number of exciting transfers may yet unfold, driven in part by standout performances on the world stage in North America. Below are nine World Cup stars who might be changing clubs this summer, along with the teams rumored to be interested.
Bradley Barcola
Bradley Barcola has emerged as a bright presence in France's formidable attack, standing out even alongside talents like Kylian Mbappe, Michael Olise, and Ousmane Dembele. He featured in all seven of France’s matches, starting four, and netted two goals—against Senegal and Sweden.
Barcola also enjoyed a strong club season with PSG, winning a second straight Champions League and making 49 appearances. Yet, he’s often been a backup to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in Luis Enrique’s plans, leaving his future uncertain. Premier League giants Liverpool and Arsenal have shown interest, with Arsenal considering him an alternative option to Rogers.
Ayyoub Bouaddi
The 18-year-old Ayyoub Bouaddi made headlines as Morocco’s midfield maestro, helping the team reach the quarter-finals. He became the second-youngest player to appear in a World Cup quarter-final, just behind Pele. His mature control belies his age, notably outplaying Brazilian stars Casemiro and Bruno Guimaraes in the group stage.
Lille will likely fend off many offers this summer, with Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Paris Saint-Germain all reportedly keen on securing the teenager.
Yan Diomande
Yan Diomande, only 19, impressed Ivory Coast fans despite their exit in the round of 32 against Norway. He earned player of the match honors against Ecuador and showcased skillful performances against Germany. Known for his ability to play on either wing and being two-footed, Diomande has attracted attention from Liverpool, although negotiations with RB Leipzig stalled at about £100 million.
PSG and Manchester United are also interested, with Diomande reportedly favoring a move to the French side.
Djed Spence
England’s full-back Djed Spence faced a challenging World Cup while playing with a chin brace after a broken jaw last season. Despite some criticism, especially after the match against DR Congo, Spence’s energy and attacking drive stood out against Norway and Argentina.
With Tottenham undergoing major changes under Roberto de Zerbi, Spence is linked to moves away. Clubs like Liverpool, Everton, and Inter Milan have expressed interest in the former Middlesbrough defender.
John Stones
John Stones made history as the first unattached player to represent England at a men’s World Cup, following the end of his contract at Manchester City. Both Italian powerhouses Juventus and Inter Milan are eyeing Stones, while Leeds United aims to keep him in the Premier League.
Antonee Robinson
Antonee Robinson, a left-back for Fulham and the United States national team, was a key figure during the co-hosts’ run to the last 16. Robinson played nearly every minute in the tournament and has drawn attention due to his impressive Premier League form. Reports suggest Manchester United is interested in signing him.
Julian Alvarez
Julian Alvarez played a crucial role for Argentina, scoring the winning goal in the quarter-final against Switzerland and helping overcome England in the semi-final. Since transferring from Manchester City in 2024, Alvarez has thrived at Atletico Madrid, scoring 25 league goals in 66 appearances.
Despite Atletico’s reluctance to sell, and having already turned down Barcelona, interest from Europe’s elite remains strong. Arsenal has been linked with a move, hoping to boost their attacking options.
Mikel Oyarzabal
Before the World Cup, some viewed Mikel Oyarzabal as a weak link in Spain’s attack. Instead, the 29-year-old has scored five goals so far, including a penalty against France. With a release clause around £65 million in his Real Sociedad contract, clubs such as Arsenal, Barcelona, and Juventus have shown interest. Whether Oyarzabal would leave his one-club career behind remains unclear.
Zion Suzuki
Zion Suzuki, Japan’s goalkeeper, earned praise for his performances despite Japan’s last-32 exit. His fingertip save from Vinicius Junior was among the tournament’s best moments. Newcastle United has kept tabs on Suzuki, though they reportedly prioritize signing England’s James Trafford. Leeds United is also linked with the Parma goalkeeper.
