Amad Diallo Supports Michael Carrick as Manchester United Manager
Amad Diallo believes Michael Carrick is the “right man” to lead Manchester United beyond the end of the season, as the interim manager’s revival of the club gathers pace.
Carrick, appointed in January after Ruben Amorim’s dismissal, has dragged United up to third in the Premier League and into a commanding position in the race for Champions League qualification. What began as a stopgap solution is starting to look like something far more permanent.
Speaking at United’s training camp in Dublin, Amad made no attempt to hide where the dressing room stands.
“It’s not for us as a player to decide, but he’s been very great, he’s been doing so much for the team,” the winger said. “He has a lot of experience, he knows the club and has the DNA. We think he’s the right man. We are really happy for what he is doing right now.”
That “DNA” line matters at a club that has spent years searching for a manager who understands its identity as much as its balance sheet. Carrick, a former United captain and serial title winner at Old Trafford, has wasted little time in imposing his standards.
From the moment he walked back through the door, the message has been blunt and ambitious.
“Since he’s arrived he’s been clear to everyone that he wants to win, he wants to reach the Champions League next season,” Amad added. “He’s been working with each player so he’s doing very well and we are really happy to have him as a manager.
“Sometimes this kind of manager can bring the club where they belong. From a personal view he’s the right man but it’s not the players who decide.”
The hierarchy had intended to take their time. Sacking Amorim at the start of the year was supposed to open up a long, deliberate search for a permanent successor, with Carrick simply holding the fort. His results have disrupted that plan.
Inside the squad, respect has grown quickly. Bryan Mbeumo, another player thriving under Carrick, echoed Amad’s view.
“We’ve got good experience with him, playing under him as well,” Mbeumo said. “It’s not for us to decide but we going to try to take as much as we can from him.
“He knows the journey of the club, he knows how to talk to us as well, I think it’s been easier because he know the place so he has been great to work with.
“I think the club will decide at the end of the season, but my honest opinion is we’re really happy to have Michael Carrick as a manager and he’s doing well.”
The board will wait until the campaign closes before making its call. Carrick, meanwhile, has a different kind of audition: keep United in the top four, drive them back into the Champions League, and make it impossible to imagine the future without him.
