Juventus Proposes Player-Swap for Alisson as Liverpool Faces Tough Decisions
Juventus are weighing up a bold move to prise Alisson Becker from Liverpool, with a player-plus-cash offer on the table as the Italians look to tempt the Premier League leaders into a deal.
Anfield is braced for a turbulent summer. The spine of the side that dragged Liverpool back to the top of English and European football is breaking apart, and Alisson, once untouchable, is no longer guaranteed to be part of the next era.
Mohamed Salah and Andrew Robertson are already confirmed departures, both leaving as free agents in May. Their exits alone would mark the end of a cycle. The prospect of Alisson following them out of the door turns it into a full-scale reset.
Arne Slot’s team still have a job to finish on the pitch with a top-five spot to nail down, but behind the scenes the planning is far more ruthless: what does Liverpool look like without their long-time No.1?
Juventus circle as Di Gregorio becomes a bargaining chip
In Italy, the answer might be black and white.
Italian journalist Romeo Agresti reports that Juventus, via juvefcdotcom on X, are seriously exploring a move for Alisson. Any successful bid would almost certainly spell the end of Michele Di Gregorio’s brief spell as first-choice in Turin.
Di Gregorio only made his switch from Monza permanent recently and, at 28, should be entering his prime. He has shown flashes of why Juventus backed him. Sharp reflexes. Confident in tight spaces. But those glimpses have not fully convinced Luciano Spalletti that he is the long-term solution.
So Juventus are considering a different route. Di Gregorio could be used as a makeweight, the key to driving down the transfer fee Liverpool would demand for one of the world’s elite goalkeepers. A goalkeeper for a goalkeeper, with money on top.
From Liverpool’s perspective, that idea is not without appeal. Di Gregorio would arrive as a seasoned option, either to push Giorgi Mamardashvili or to provide experienced cover if the Georgian fully seizes the No.1 shirt next season. For a club trying to manage a major transition without losing stability at the back, that matters.
There is a catch. Any agreement hinges on Alisson himself. The Brazilian would need to accept a slight reduction in his annual salary to make the move viable for Juventus. Without that compromise, the deal stalls.
Time to cash in on a legend?
The dilemma for Liverpool is brutal but clear. Do they cling to the goalkeeper who helped deliver the club’s modern glory days, or do they move on before his physical decline bites even harder?
Alisson was a pillar of the side that won two Premier League titles and the 2019 Champions League. His presence transformed Liverpool’s defence from fragile to formidable. For several seasons, he was almost ever-present: 51 appearances in his first campaign, 42 in 2020-21, then 54 and 47 in the following two years.
That reliability has eroded. The last three seasons tell a different story. Injury after injury has chipped away at his availability, limiting him to 32, 35 and 35 games across 2023-24, 2024-25 and the current campaign. At 33, the trend is hard to ignore.
Liverpool have already started preparing for life after him. Mamardashvili has had a year to adjust to English football, to the pace, the scrutiny, the expectation. The club could decide that this summer is the moment to rip off the bandage.
Juventus are waiting, ready to test that resolve. The question now is simple: do Liverpool hold their nerve and keep a legend, or cash in while there is still a market for one of the defining goalkeepers of their era?
