Arsenal's Pursuit of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia Hits PSG Resistance

Arsenal’s pursuit of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is running straight into a brick wall in Paris.

Mikel Arteta wants a marquee forward this summer and, according to Sky Sports, the club have been actively exploring a move for the 25-year-old, now one of the most devastating wingers in Europe. Since his €80 million switch from Napoli to PSG in January 2025, the Georgian has gone from rising star to fully-fledged superstar.

PSG dig their heels in

Inside the French champions’ hierarchy, Kvaratskhelia is considered untouchable. Eighteen months of relentless output in Ligue 1 and in Europe have pushed him into the inner circle of the club’s core project, and the reigning European champions have no intention of dismantling that.

Any route to the Emirates already looks blocked. PSG want continuity, not a rebuild, and Kvaratskhelia sits at the heart of that plan.

The message from the player’s camp only hardens that stance.

“He’s happy in Paris”

Speaking to Kviris Palitra, via Fabrizio Romano, Kvaratskhelia’s father, Badri, moved quickly to cool talk of a summer exit.

“Khvicha leaving PSG? He’s not thinking about that,” he said. “He’s happy in Paris, where he is highly valued and respected by club. Why should he think about moving elsewhere when he is winning titles with the team and is one of PSG’s key players? If PSG no longer wishes to continue the cooperation, we will consider options, but for now, this is not being discussed.”

No cryptic hints. No open door. Just a clear line: as long as PSG want him, he stays.

A star delivering on the biggest stage

Kvaratskhelia has backed up the price tag with hard numbers and big moments. He forced his way into a star-studded XI and stayed there.

Across 74 appearances for the Ligue 1 champions, he has produced 24 goals and 17 assists, a return that underlines both end product and influence. His crowning moment so far came in last season’s Champions League final, when he scored in a ruthless 5-0 demolition of Inter Milan as Les Parisiens finally crushed Europe’s biggest stage.

That kind of performance changes how a club sees you. It also changes how willing they are to even pick up the phone when interest comes from abroad.

Arsenal noise meets PSG reality

From the outside, the move makes sense. Arsenal need another elite attacker to push their title and Champions League ambitions; Kvaratskhelia fits the profile perfectly. Left-sided, explosive, technically brilliant, proven in Europe.

Inside PSG, the calculation is different. Any departure would likely require a major strategic shift at the club, the sort of reset that simply is not on the table right now. The “Georgian Messi” is settled in Paris, embedded in one of the most ruthless attacking lines on the continent, and treated as a pillar of the project rather than a tradable asset.

So the links to Arsenal grow louder, but the likelihood of movement remains faint.

Eyes on Bayern, not on England

All of this plays out as PSG gear up for a huge Champions League semi-final against Bayern Munich. Kvaratskhelia already has a winners’ medal with the club, and those close to him say his focus is on stacking trophies, not chasing a new league.

The timing of the rumours feels familiar: a Premier League giant circling just as a European tie reaches boiling point. Yet around Kvaratskhelia, the mood is calm. Content with his role, backed fully by the PSG hierarchy, he looks locked into the Paris project.

Arsenal can admire from afar, plan, and hope. But unless something breaks inside PSG’s strategy, they may have to find their game-changing forward somewhere else.
