Barcelona Targets Tottenham Stars Amid Relegation Battle

Barcelona’s recruitment team has turned its gaze to north London, watching Tottenham’s slide towards danger with the cold calculation of a club that smells opportunity.

According to Diario SPORT, the Catalan giants are tracking at least five key Tottenham players as Spurs scrap for their Premier League lives. If Ange Postecoglou’s side crash into the Championship, a fire sale of top assets at cut prices could follow – exactly the kind of market opening a cash-strapped Barcelona cannot ignore.

A reunion and a revenge signing?

Top of the list is a familiar name. Simons, a product of La Masia, is viewed as the jewel of Tottenham’s midfield and a player who could walk straight back into the Barcelona ecosystem. For the Netherlands international, a return would complete a neat circle: academy prodigy leaves, proves himself in England, then comes home to lead a new era.

His creativity and positional versatility make him an obvious fit for Hansi Flick’s plans. Barcelona need players who can both break lines and live comfortably between them. Simons ticks those boxes.

Then comes Lucas Bergvall, and with him a hint of unfinished business. The Swedish youngster was on the brink of joining Barcelona before opting for Tottenham. That choice still stings in Catalonia. His time in London has been disrupted by injuries and a lack of regular minutes, but Barcelona’s scouts have not cooled on him. They still see a high-ceiling midfielder who slipped through their fingers once. They do not intend to let it happen again if the door opens.

Building Flick’s backline

Barcelona’s interest is not limited to the middle of the pitch. Flick wants a defence that can play high, recover fast, and dominate with the ball. Spurs, for all their problems, have two centre-backs who fit that profile.

Micky van de Ven is seen as a standout target. His pace over the ground, his comfort stepping out with the ball, and his left foot make him an almost tailor-made partner for Pau Cubarsi. Inside the club, there is a sense that pairing those two could give Barcelona one of the most balanced central-defensive duos in Europe for years to come.

Alongside him on the shortlist is Cristian Romero. The Argentine has already shown he can perform at a high level in England, bringing aggression, timing, and leadership. He would raise the competitive bar in Barcelona’s backline immediately, pushing every existing centre-back for minutes.

Porro, Kounde and the right flank equation

The fifth name on Barcelona’s radar is Pedro Porro. The Spain international looks like a natural fit for the club’s traditional full-back profile: relentless on the overlap, technically sharp, and dangerous in the final third.

His signing, though, is tied directly to the future of Jules Kounde. Barcelona are open to offers for the Frenchman this summer as they try to ease their financial strain. If a substantial bid arrives and Kounde moves on, Porro is viewed as the ideal successor – a right-back who can give Flick the attacking thrust from deep that he demands.

All eyes on the Premier League table

For now, all of this sits on a knife-edge. With four games left in the Premier League season, Tottenham’s fate will dictate the entire equation.

If Spurs stay up, negotiations for any of these players will be complex and expensive. If they go down, the so-called “relegation discount” comes into play, and the market around their stars will explode.

Barcelona know they will not be alone if that happens. Rival clubs across Europe are already watching the same situation, running the same calculations. But the pull of the Camp Nou, the promise of Champions League nights, and the chance for some of these players to either return home or take the next step in their careers could tilt the balance.

Tottenham are fighting to avoid disaster. Barcelona are waiting to see if that disaster becomes their biggest opportunity of the summer.
