Benjamin Sesko Withdraws from Slovenia Squad Amid Manchester United Struggles

Benjamin Sesko has pulled out of Slovenia’s Nations League squad as Manchester United’s early-season problems deepen.

The 23-year-old striker missed Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Fulham with a shin injury picked up in last week’s League Cup defeat to Brighton at Old Trafford. The knock has now ruled him out of a four-game international block: two meetings with Scotland, plus clashes against North Macedonia and Switzerland.

United confirmed the news on Monday, outlining the next steps for their summer signing.

“Manchester United can confirm that Benjamin Sesko has withdrawn from the Slovenia squad ahead of the upcoming three-week international break,” the club said in a statement. “Benjamin will undergo tests this week before defining his individual recovery plan.”

Sesko has scored two goals for United this season and was beginning to settle into Michael Carrick’s side. His absence strips both club and country of a key attacking option at a time when neither can afford more disruption.

And he is not alone.

Sesko became the fourth United player to withdraw from international duty on Monday. Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo have both pulled out of the England squad, while Karl Darlow has left the Wales camp, adding to Carrick’s growing list of concerns.

United sit a disappointing 12th in the Premier League table, with just five points from their opening five games. The margins are already tight, the mood already tense.

Their next test? A home fixture on October 10 against bottom side Tottenham — a game that now carries even more weight, and one they may have to face without their new No 9.
