Bosnia Coach Sergej Barbarez Blames Newcastle for Amar Dedic's Hamstring Setback

Sergej Barbarez, head coach of Bosnia and Herzegovina, has openly criticized Newcastle United after defender Amar Dedic worsened a hamstring injury while playing for the club. The full-back now faces an extended absence following this aggravation during recent Premier League action.

Dedic's Injury Situation

Dedic had made an encouraging start at St James' Park, but a recurring hamstring problem first appeared in a Carabao Cup match against Millwall earlier this month. Despite medical staff optimism, Newcastle's choice to field him in the Premier League game against Leeds ended badly. Dedic lasted just 58 minutes before exiting due to injury, and Barbarez believes this mishandling cost the player his spot with the national team for the current international break.

National Coach Details Recovery Outlook

At a Sarajevo press event, Barbarez explained that the injury worsened significantly after the Leeds match compared to the initial strain versus Millwall. He expressed frustration that more rest could have prevented this setback. Barbarez said,

"I want to explain some technical points about Amar Dedic’s injury. He re-injured himself against Leeds and the damage is more severe now. If he had rested that match, he would definitely be with us currently, but these things happen. He will be out for three to four weeks and won't be ready for the upcoming four matches."

Other Key Absences and Squad Changes

Barbarez also confirmed another major blow: midfielder Kenan Busuladzic suffers a serious knee injury requiring around nine months of recovery. The manager shared,

"We also miss Kenan Busuladzic. He tore his cruciate ligaments and will be sidelined for nine months."

To adapt, Barbarez has added four new players to the squad: Benjamin Tahirovic, Ajdin Hasic, Arjan Malic, and Luka Duric. Duric’s inclusion stands out due to his progress playing in Germany’s second division with Paderborn. Barbarez commented,

"We invited Benjamin Tahirovic, Ajdin Hasic, Arjan Malic, and Luka Duric from Paderborn. Duric has taken a step forward, playing in the Bundesliga. While the season started slowly, we want to see him in action to consider him part of the team."

The coach offered reassurance regarding Juventus youngster Kerim Alajbegovic, who was subbed off at halftime in a recent game due to hip pain. After evaluation by Juventus medical staff, Barbarez said,

"We spoke with Alajbegovic last night. He felt some hip pain. Juventus doctors examined him, and he is coming to Sarajevo. He might rest for a day or two but it’s nothing serious."
