Eiran Cashin Out for Two Months: Derby County Defensive Setback

Derby County have been dealt a major defensive blow with Eiran Cashin ruled out for around two months with a calf injury.

The centre-back, who returned to Pride Park at the start of the month on loan from Brighton for the rest of the season, had quickly been thrown back into the heart of the Rams’ back line. He started in the defeats to West Brom and Birmingham, playing close to the full 90 minutes in both as John Eustace looked to lean on a familiar face.

Then came the Burnley game – and his name was missing from the teamsheet.

“Cash is out now for about eight weeks, he's done his calf,” Eustace told BBC Radio Derby, confirming the worst fears over the 22-year-old’s absence.

For Derby, it cuts deep. Cashin is not just another loanee passing through; he came through the club’s academy, made 144 appearances in his first spell and had been brought back to add authority and personality to the defence for the run-in.

Instead of anchoring Derby’s promotion push, he now faces a race against time to play a meaningful part in the remainder of the season.
