Liverpool Eye Late Move for Marcos Senesi Amid Tottenham Interest
Liverpool are weighing up a late move to snatch Marcos Senesi from under Tottenham’s nose, according to CaughtOffside.
Spurs are reported to have an agreement in principle with the AFC Bournemouth defender over a free transfer, a neat piece of early business for a club planning for a major rebuild. But that deal is far from over the line, and Liverpool are watching the situation closely.
They have good reason. Liverpool are expected to strengthen at centre-back this summer, with depth a clear priority for the next phase of their squad. Senesi’s profile fits neatly: a left-sided defender comfortable stepping out with the ball, aggressive in duels, and known for sharp, line-breaking passes that can kick-start attacks.
That ability on the ball could be a major selling point at Anfield, where defenders are asked to do far more than simply clear their lines.
Tottenham’s position complicates things. The report notes that the threat of relegation for the London club could yet reshape the landscape. A drop into the Championship would not only hit finances but also make it far harder to convince a player in his prime to commit his future there.
Liverpool, by contrast, are aiming to secure Champions League football. If they can put that on the table, it would immediately change the conversation. For a player weighing his next step, the prospect of European nights at Anfield is a powerful card.
There is also a personal link. Current Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes previously played a key role in taking Senesi to Feyenoord in 2022. That existing relationship could help open doors and smooth any negotiations if Liverpool decide to move from interest to a concrete offer.
Senesi has not spoken publicly about his future and, at this stage, the situation remains in the realm of maneuvering and positioning rather than a full-blown transfer battle. But with one agreement only “in principle” and another giant circling, this is a deal that could turn quickly.
If Liverpool choose to strike, Tottenham’s carefully laid plans for their defensive rebuild may suddenly look very fragile.
