Newcastle's Elanga Faces Extended Injury Layoff After Leeds Defeat

Elanga has been ruled out of all of Sweden’s upcoming Nations League fixtures against Romania and Poland. The federation confirmed the news in a statement outlining several absentees.

“A number of names are missing and several are due to injuries,” the statement read. “Isak Hien, who was injured during the World Cup, is still not available. Anthony Elanga has suffered an injury in the past week and will therefore miss the meeting.”

For Sweden, it is a frustrating setback. For Newcastle, it is a flashing warning sign.

Newcastle’s immediate picture darkens

The damage is not limited to the international window. Elanga will also miss Newcastle’s home game against Hull City on Saturday, and when Sweden’s two internationals are factored in, he is already guaranteed to sit out at least four matches.
