Tottenham Pursue Savinho and Marmoush in Bold Double Deal
Tottenham are trying to pull off one of the most audacious attacking rebuilds of the summer, with talks under way to sign both Savinho and Marmoush from Manchester City, according to The Athletic.
Nothing is signed. Not yet. But negotiations between the two Premier League clubs are described as progressing well, and the shape of Spurs’ new forward line is starting to come into focus.
Savinho back on the radar
Savinho is not a new name at Hotspur Way. Spurs chased the Brazilian last summer, only to be rebuffed when City refused to cash in.
This time, the picture looks different.
The 20-year-old was left out of City’s squad for their 3-0 Community Shield defeat to Arsenal on Sunday, a notable omission at a time when his future is being actively discussed. City’s stance has softened, and Tottenham are back at the table, sensing an opening they could not find a year ago.
Marmoush the Haaland understudy who’s ready to move
On the other side of the deal sits Marmoush, who has long looked like a candidate to leave the Etihad in this window.
Used primarily as backup to Erling Haaland, the forward has struggled for regular minutes in Manchester. His track record, though, is hard to ignore: 15 goals in 17 games in his final half-season for Eintracht Frankfurt before joining City. That kind of streak is exactly what Tottenham are gambling on rediscovering in north London.
De Zerbi wants more punch in the final third. Marmoush offers it. Savinho brings flair and directness. Together, they would change the face of Spurs’ attack.
A summer of heavy spending – and a new Spurs
If these deals land, they will sit on top of an already extraordinary window.
Tottenham have committed around £229.5 million on Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Jan Paul van Hecke. On top of that, they have moved shrewdly in the free-transfer market, snapping up Marcos Senesi, Andy Robertson and Martin Dubravka without transfer fees.
It is a level of activity that would usually trigger alarm bells around financial regulations. Spurs insist they are within the rules. The numbers back that up: majority owners ENIC have shifted strategy and started injecting funds, while big-money exits have balanced the books, most notably Luka Vuskovic’s move to Brighton for a guaranteed £46m.
This is not the cautious Tottenham of old. This is a club spending like a contender.
De Zerbi’s “bomba” and the need up front
Earlier this month, Roberto De Zerbi teased supporters with talk of a surprise “bomba” signing. The hint felt ambitious at the time. The pursuit of Savinho and Marmoush suggests he meant every word.
Tottenham’s need in attack is real. Richarlison is down to the final year of his contract. Dominic Solanke has been dogged by injuries. For a team with top-four ambitions, that is a fragile foundation.
Savinho and Marmoush would not just pad out the squad. They would arrive to play, to carry the scoring burden, to give De Zerbi the variety and depth he has lacked.
If Marmoush can reproduce anything close to his Frankfurt form, and if Savinho adapts quickly, Spurs suddenly look armed with one of the most dangerous front lines in the division.
One last push before the window shuts
For now, the work is clear. Tottenham must turn advanced talks into completed transfers before the window closes. The club are focusing on finalising agreements with Manchester City, knowing the impact a double deal would have on their season.
Secure both, and De Zerbi walks into the autumn with an attack capable of frightening any defence in the Premier League.
The money has been spent, the intent has been declared. All that remains is to see whether Savinho and Marmoush walk through the door – and whether this revamped Tottenham can turn an aggressive summer into a top-four finish.
